Importance of Floor Insulation
Floor insulation is very important as a great amount of heat from the
conditioned areas of the house can be lost through floors that are not
insulated. The areas of the home that are more important to be insulated are
garages and basements as they are unheated, unlike the rest of the house.
Insulating the garage and basement floors is important, but it is not difficult
to handle.
Insulating the Basement Floor
Basement floor insulation is very important as it is designed to keep the warm
air in and the moisture out. This way, heat loss is reduced. Insulation must be
carried out in a professional manner as any problem that might occur at an
ulterior time will translate in additional, and, many times, expensive costs.
Floor insulation works efficiently only when it is correctly installed.
Measures for Basement Floor Insulation
Several measures must be taken when insulating the basement floor. Before
installing the basement floor insulation, all holes in the conditioned spaces
must be covered with caulk or foam. The penetrations from plumbing and
electrical applications must be checked. The first step of the operation
consists of introducing a base gravel under the basement slab covered afterwards
with extruded polystyrene foam board. The joints between the boards must be
taped with builder’s tape and this tape must be checked for holes as this
product is used as vapor barrier. The insulation is fixed with tiger teeth
support rods made of metal, then it is compressed with the curved rod.
Products for Floor Insulation
Floor insulation can be made using different products. One of them is polyfoam
floorboard, well known for its performance and ozone friendly qualities. It is
found in three grades: standard for domestic flooring, extra for commercial
flooring and super for industrial use. Polyfoam floorboard is very popular
because it is light, it has excellent structural strength and it lasts for a
long time.
Another product used for floor insulation is rockwool rockfloor. This is a
tissue-faced, high compressive strength slab used for acoustic and thermal
insulation of separating floors. This material is very efficient, it is easy to
install and it is highly compressive resistant.
Timber floors are insulated with other product called rocksil floor slab. This
one also has good acoustic and thermal insulation properties. The rocksil floor
slabs are made of rock mineral wool and they are rigid and compression
resistant. |
